Cambodian Traditional Wedding Dinner
I was invited by my staff to attend his wedding dinner on the 11th May 2008. This was the first Cambodian traditional wedding dinner that I attended after 9 months staying in this country.
The tradition of the wedding dinner started as early as 3.30pm and ended around midnight. It was in one of the “kampong” which was on the way to the killing field (a famous historical area during the Khmer rouge).
We arrived the place at 6.00pm. The wedding bride and bridegroom were waiting at the entrance and took photos with every guests. After photo taking session, each guest will hand in Angpow to the reception. And we were seated at the table. Waited till the table was fully occupied with 10 guests, then dinner will start to serve.
Some of the food was quite similar to Chinese food like prawn cooked with butter sauce and braised kampong chicken. And I would say some is quite similar to Thai food like the appetizer and salad.
I also found out that it is essential that every guest must be fully groomed up with full make up and hair done to attend for the cambodian wedding dinner. Everyone will have their make up and hair do done at the shop which costs at around usd5-10. And their traditional dinner wear is also not that cheap, costs at minimum of USD50 and above.
We went off at around 7.30pm without waiting till the dancing part.
